Jeff passed on 15 June last year, and his family has now arranged to fulfil one of his last wishes - to scatter his ashes off Stanwell Park beach.

Club members, friends and others who knew Jeff are invited to Stanwell Park Surf Club from 1.30pm on Sunday 8 February as we recognise his achievements in life and particularly his service to Surf Life Saving.  Jeff’s ashes will be taken out to sea in his namesake IRB the “Jeff Lucke”  christened in March 2022.

Jeff joined Helensburgh-Stanwell Park SLSC in 1982 and after gaining the Bronze Medallion, went on to complete 15 years as a patrol member with 100% attendance each season.  Two years later he qualified as a carnival official and over the next 22 years officiated at all five levels of Surf Life Saving competition - Club, Branch, State, National and International.

In 1997, Jeff decided it was time to move away from beach patrols to focus on development of our nipper members, cadets and younger surf lifesavers.  He qualified as a trainer and assessor and commenced training 13 year old nipper members to gain their Surf Rescue Certificate, cadet members to gain the Bronze Medallion and other younger members to enhance their skills in resuscitation and IRB operations.  In the 2021 and 2022 seasons he was a regular at Sunday morning nippers, coaching nippers in beach events, and setting up the sprint and flag areas on the beach.

For his services to Helensburgh-Stanwell Park SLSC, Jeff was awarded Life Membership in 2005.  He was also awarded Life Membership for his service to both Surf Life Saving NSW and Surf Life Saving Australia in 2007, and Surf Life Saving Illawarra in 2018.
