A big thanks to GM Holden and Michael Shields of Gateway Holden for selecting Helensburgh-Stanwell Park Surf Life Saving Club to recieve a grant in the $5M Holden Home Ground Advantage program.
The club recieved a $10k cheque on Sunday, 10 July 2016 for the purchase of new racing boards for the clubs Nipper and Cadet Members. The provision of these boards will enable development and competitiveness of juniior competitors at carnivals up and down the coast. Competent and confident juniors develop competent life savers.
The club relies heavily on the local community for donations to support patrol operations and local businesses for sponsorship of our competition program. The money does not go far and the Holden Home Ground Advantage is timely in enabling us to seek funding support for our junior competitors to enable them to compete at carnivals with equipment comparable to that used by the larger city based clubs. The Under 14 Years and Cadet members commit themselves to training and train hard, so it is only fair and approriate that the club makes available to them the most suitable equipment to use in competitions. Holden Home Ground Advantage provides the club with an opportunity to fulfill that objective. This improves fitness and self confidence in our younger members and puts them on a more consistent footing with competitors from larger clubs. The junior members commit themselves to train hard and the Executive Committee believes it is only fair that this commitment is backed up by the availability of quality competition equipment for competitors use.
Sandy Alchi, NSW Zone Manager for GM Holden, and Michael Shields, Director/Dealer Principal and Carl Paller General Manager from Gateway Motor Group, as well as 3 very nice vehicles (Commodore, Captiva and Colarado) from the Holden range attended the cheque presentation. There to witness the presentation were a number of Nipper members who will be the direct beneficiaries of the grant over the next few seasons, as well as club members and parents.
The Holden Home Ground Advantage Grant program was developed by GM Holden as it understands the importance of grassroots sporting clubs to local Australian communities, which is why in 2014 GM Holden committed $5 million over 10 years to helping clubs around Australia.
