The Stanwell Park Sea Eels Winter Swimming Club headed off to Wagga Wagga over the weekend of 12 - 13 September 2015 to compete in the Australian Winter Swimming Championships.
A great weekend was had by all 30 odd members who attended, included the hard souls who caught the bus for the looong trip down the Hume Highway.
The swim was not without succes with the clubs "B" Grade Relay picking up a Silver Medal in the 10 x 50m Nominated Time Relay, swimming just 2 and a bit seconds off their nominated time. Congraulations to Rob Pugh, Barney Vodicar, Dawn Blackwell, Rod Hampson, Stephanie McGuinness, Peter Turner, Ian Van Zyl, Peter McDonald, Sean Kelly and Jarrod Kennedy on a great, consistent, and well paced swim. And yes, that's right there were 2 female members of this medal winning team....well done Dawno and Steph.
The club also had 3 finalists in individual events,
Open 50m - Jarrod Kennedy
O/40 50m - Karl Weber and Steven McDonald
The event concluded with presentation and a dinner at the Union Club Hotel, and despite reports of them running out of food everyone was well feed and well watered.
The bus will be heading back up the Hume soon, not sure they will get the same welcome into "The Burgh" as the Grand Final Winning Tigers did last night, but they will return with their spoils.
Looking forward to the 2016 Championship in Newcastle, this time next year.
