Congratulations to the 30 Stanwell Park Sea Eels who headed up to Belmont on the weekend of 17-19 Septemeber 2016 for the Australian Winter Swimming Championships.

The weekend started early on Saturday monring with a looonng bus trip up the coast to an exclusive pre-event training session at Squids Ink on the Lake at Belmont, followed by the traditional taper later that evening at the Belmont Bowling Club. The Sea Eels were finely tuned for their performances on the Sunday morning at the Charlestown Swim Centre.

The intensive traiing during the season paid off, with a win in the Nominated Time A Relay event beating 20 other club in this hotly contested event, in the B Relay Event the club picked up a 4th place.

Members of the "A" Team - Phil Kelly, Stephanie McGuinness, Karl Weber, Dawn Marshall, Anne Woodward, Graham Cassidy, Peter Burke, Damian Lloyd, Gavin Black and Barry Allen

Anne Woodward made the final of the O/50 ladies 50m freestyle

Viv Moxham-hall picked up a 3rd place in the O/25 ladies 50m freestyle

The club didn't go unnoticed by anyone, as all members were sporting our new touring team 'ugly' shirts and brand new cossies....."feel the eel" hasn't been excluded, it has just moved around a bit.

A couple of special mentions, welcome aboard debutant Gavin Black....let's hope it's not your only appearance and to Steph McGuinness celebrating her birthday with an Aussis Gold Medal.

A great effort by the only winter swimming club representing all of the South Coast Winter Swiming Association clubs, our club were the last to leave the pool and last to leave the post event celebrations keeping up a strong tradition.

It is expected that the residents of Helensburgh will turn out on Monday, 19 September in the afternoon to welcome the trumphant Sea Eels home.
