The Stanwell Park Sea Eels Winter Swimmers travelled north to the Bondi Icebergs on Sunday, 31 July 2016 to participate in the 2016 South Metropolitan Winter Swimming Championship.

A great result for the B Team in the 10 Man Nominated Time Relay finishing in 2nd place just 1.9 seconds under their nominated time, the A Team finished in 7th place 8.4 seconds over their nominated time. New member Jenny Scott was our "Swimmer of the Meet" with 5 swims and placing 4th with a time of 36.77 seconds in the Over 50's. Well done to the 3 other members who claimed a spot in their respective finals, Viv Moxham-Hall 5th (34.46 sec) in O/25's, Peter McDonald 5th (43.38 sec) in O/65's and Steven McDonald 7th (31.47 sec) in O/45's. Well done also to our adopted members from the Cronulla Polars Bears, Ron Massar 1st (28.29 sec) in O/55's and Jimmy Quinn 2nd (27.88 sec) in O/40's. The club also fielded a team on the Men's 60 & Over 6 Person Relay (4:53.50), Women's 50 & Over 4 Person Relay (3:12.34), Men's 50 & Over 6 Person Relay (4:00.62) and Women's Open 6 Person Relay (4:07.88)

Good to see Norm and Lyn back with us, thanks to James and Patience, Klaus and Katarina and Anne- Marie and Jacinta making their own way there, Nathan and Zoe, Aahlia, Sandra, Helen the support crew. A great day on the bus trip thanks to bus driver Grant from Robertson Buses, could have been a little warmer earlier but our cheer squad out did all the other the clubs encouraging the Clovelly Eskimo to finally get into the swing of things.

Swim of the day times two goes to Shanus in the O/60s relay, first and last swimmer at his pace, this is a bloke who could swim from here to New Zealand at his pace and make it, but he was not going to alter that pace to get a medal, thus finishing one and a half laps behind the rest of the swimmers but receiving the biggest applause. Another great day out for the Sea Eels and maybe with these results we can look forward to greater results at the Australian or have we peaked to early?
