Helensburgh-Stanwell Park Surf Life Saving Club was formed on 11 February 1908 and is ranked among the top 10 oldest surf life saving clubs in the world.

The Club patrols Stanwell Park Beach, the most northern beach on the Illawarra Coast. At the northern end of the beach is Bald Hill a popular place for hang-gliding. Despite being located in Stanwell Park the club maintains strong community ties with the surrounding suburbs of Helensburgh, Stanwell Tops and Otford. The Club draws members from the local surrounds and many areas outside the local area including Engadine, Heathcote, Waterfall, Sutherland Shire, Wollondilly Shire, inner Sydney Suburbs, and up and down the coast.

With around 65 active patrolling members, 153 junior "Nippers' ' members and the balance being made up of associate members the club is a strong force in life saving, locally and throughout the country. The Club was named "2021/22 Surf Life Saaving Illawarra Patrolling Club of the Year", "2020/21 Surf Life Saving NSW Club of the Year",  "2020/21 Surf Life Saving Illawarra Club of the Year'' and has been awarded with the Surf Life Saving Illawarra honour on a number of occasions. The Club's membership actively participates in life saving competition, training, and administration at many levels. The Club boasts a number of "Illawarra Life Saver of the Year '', "Illawarra Volunteer of the Year '' winners and many other awards for contribution to life saving.
