Club Life Member Jeff Lucke passed away this morning (15/06/2025) aged 79.

Jeff first became involved with surf life saving in March 1982 when he took a spare seat on the touring team bus to the Aussies in South Australia, and decided to join our Club a few days later.   After gaining his Bronze Medallion, Jeff went on to complete over 15 years of patrols with 100% attendance.

Jeff took on other roles as a Club member including Chief Instructor 4 years, Treasurer 2 years, Patrol Secretary 2 years and a Club delegate to the Illawarra branch for 9 years.

Around 1999-2000, he decided to give rostered patrols away and instead focus on other activities including training of Club members for SLSA awards, setting up and running a “Rookie Program” to cater for and develop our younger lifesavers, and greater involvement as a competition official at Branch, State and Australian championships.

Pre-Covid and after Covid, Jeff was regularly at the beach on Sunday mornings training nippers in beach events.

For his services to the Club and surf life saving, Jeff was elevated to Life Membership of the Club in 2005, Life Membership of Surf Life Saving NSW in 2007, and Life Membership of Surf Life Saving Illawarra in 2018.

In passing Jeff will be remembered as a diligent and reliable surf lifesaver who was happy to share his knowledge and skills in developing our members as future lifesavers.

RIP Jeff  -  Our condolences to wife Brenda and daughter Emma
