Updated information about $50 Vouchers
This year, the NSW Government is providing two x $50 vouchers “….to assist low-to-middle-income families meet the costs of accessing sport and recreational and/or creative and cultural activities.” Vouchers are intended to assist with paying fees for a child to access an activity. Below are some of the items now deemed to be ineligible:
(i) jerseys, socks, boots, art kits, craft kits, paints, books, stationery, canvases, clothing, uniforms, leotards, and instruments.
(ii) travel associated with an Eligible Activity.
(iii) items, equipment or materials that would usually be purchased from a retailer and paid for as part of participating in an activity, except where the item, equipment or material is an Activity-linked Material.
Note: Other than membership or joining fees, the Surf Club can only accept a Voucher for purchase of a Club safety vest and/or Club cap as these are deemed to be essential for a child to participate in a surf life saving activity.
a. Updated information about Family Memberships and $50 Vouchers
Vouchers cannot be used to pay a childs membership fee as part of a family group membership (NSW Government regulation). To use a voucher for a child’s membership, a registration separate to the family group is necessary and generally this will not incur any extra cost. b. Updated information about Redeeming $50 Vouchers
Surf Life Saving NSW has now confirmed vouchers cannot be redeemed through the on-line membership renewal process, and if a Club wishes to accept vouchers, a manual redemption process will be necessary.
As a Registered Provider, a Club officer must either scan the QR code on your Childs Voucher to a device or manually enter the Voucher serial number into the device; this device is a mobile phone or tablet that has been registered with Service NSW by the Surf Club for the purpose of redeeming Vouchers and is currently the mobile phone of the Club Secretary
To minimize inconvenience to parents and Club officers, the following arrangements will apply:
- Parent applies to Service NSW for a voucher – click on link https://www.service.nsw.gov.au/guidelines/active-and-creative-kids-voucher#application-process
- Once approved by Service NSW, the voucher can be found under the “Voucher” section of the parent’s My Service NSW Account, or with an email sent from Service NSW with the vouchers available to download and print, or display using a mobile device, ie a parents mobile phone.
- To redeem through the Surf Club with $50 transferred towards child’s membership fee.
- Parent sends voucher to Club Secretary / Registrar to redeem. Options are:
forward email received from Service NSW to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. OR
forward text message from Service NSW to the Club Registrar on mobile 0427 796133 OR
if unable to forward by either email or text, send a separate text message to Club Registrar.
Note: information forwarded to the Secretary or Registrar must include the name of the parent and a phone/email contact, the child’s name exactly as recorded on the voucher, and the Service NSW Voucher serial number
- Club Secretary (usually within 24 hours) will manually redeem the Voucher through Service NSW.
- Club Secretary will advise the parent by email or text the Voucher has been successfully redeemed and $50 is being transferred into the Club bank account.
- Parent proceeds to register the child through the On-Line membership renewal system (see item 3), and pay the balance of $10 owing for the childs membership.
The childs membership category (Junior Activity Member, Cadet Member or Active Patrol Member (15-18 years), will automatically display an option to pay only $10 in conjunction with a Voucher.
- At this stage, these are temporary arrangements and will be updated later, including how to redeem a Voucher in person at the Surf Club.
