The season has officially begun with some strong results in the boat area and on the beach. This is a quick rundown/essay of how we have been going so far in Season 2013/2014.
A few weeks back, our strong Open Women's crew of Brooke Dent, Courtney Overell, Stephanie Barlow, Georgia Leach and their sweep Bluey finished 2nd in the Rooster's River Run. A tough and close race which tested the girls strength and endurance early on in the season.
The girls also rowed yesterday at the Mollymook Classic where they had a mixed day. There were a number of very talented crews that turned out and the girls had some tough races in the early rounds. Unfortunately, there was a mix-up with the points and finishing places and the girls ended up missing the final. The girls weren't phased by the mix-up an...d decided to row on the outside of the race for extra training. Well, not only did they produce their best row of the day….they actually bloody won the race!!! Who needs the title or points or prizemoney when you know you were the best crew on the day in the race that counted.
The girls will ensure that they bring the exact same form next week when they begin their Ocean Thunder campaign at Dee Why. Bring home the bacon Beavers!!!
On the sand, we have a had a strong off season in recruitment. We have welcomed a number of new female competitors who have strengthened our already strong stock of girls. In our first Sydney Water carnival at Shellharbour last weekend we dominated all ages, coming away with a number of wins. We won all four open events with Blake Drysdale taking the double in the men's events whilst Laura Shorter won the sprint and Laura Humphries the flags.
New members Keeleigh Mccauley and Yvette Avery both won their age sprints whilst Tristan Sailor claimed the double in the U/17 Male category.
