Happy New Year to all our club members and families, hope everyone had a great New Years Day especially if you spent it at the beach.
Stanwell Park was packed, probably the most people on the beach for years. Fortunately the surf was favourable and most visitors to the beach could get in the water and enjoy a swim.
A group of club members and friends maitntained their tradition of an annual swim out the the "Pinnicales" and back, and the club opened for New Years Day Drinks and BBQ. It was great to see clubs members and the public soaking up the view and enjoying a couple of cool drinks to celebrate the first day of the year.
The club patrolled Stanwell Park beach on New Years Day, the lifesavers were busy with only a couple of resuces in the morning and none in the afternoon despite the crowds. Over 200 people were in the water at 6:00pm when the flags came down, but on advice from lifesavers most left the water or came in off the sandbank and only few remained in the water when lifesavers left the surf club around 6:30pm.
Thanks to the patrols on New Years Day Patrol 6 - Captain Iris Huizinga and Patrol 5 - Captain Steven McDonald, both patrols were full even with some voluntary patrol members, all serving to keep the beach incident free on the day.
Tradies and Peabody are back on-board to support that club during the 2015/2016 season with substantial sponsorships, we thank these businesses for their on-going support of Helensburgh-Stanwell Park Surf Club.
Hoping everyone has a happy and safe year.
