Historic Deal Puts Surf Clubs on Solid Ground

The NSW Government and Surf Life Saving NSW have made an historic agreement on surf club leases on Crown land to cut red tape for surf clubs so they can focus on keeping the state’s beaches safe.

The new club lease package removes the need for clubs and councils to negotiate new arrangements and provides a 20-year minimum lease.

To assist surf clubs to understand the new approach, a position statement, Authorising surf life saving clubs’ use of Crown land in NSW, is available here along with the media release.

2016 Stramit NSW Country Surf Life Saving Championships

The excitement levels are building for the 2016 Country Champs with just over a week to go until they kick off at South West Rocks. Make sure you visit the Country Champs Event Page for all the latest including the Final Event Information, Water Safety and Powercraft Rosters and Officials appointments.

Once again, we will be profiling a number of athletes who will be competing at the Country Champs, so make sure you check them out on the Country Champs Event Page.

Club Information Survey

Surf Life Saving NSW would like to hear from you. We are in the process of improving our communication to members and would like your opinion on information you receive from SLSNSW, Branch and Club. The survey will take you less than five minutes and would greatly help us streamline information that is sent to members.

Your Club has the chance to win $5000 with Dulux Weathershield

Do you think your Surf Club faces some of the harshest weather conditions of any across the country?

Nominations are open for your club to participate in the search for Australia’s Toughest Surf Life Saving Club and the chance to win $5000 thanks to Dulux Weathershield!

To enter, simply submit an image depicting the weather challenges your club faces throughout the year, whether it be gale force winds, extreme heat or torrential rain. If you don’t already have a great example on hand, think creatively (e.g. A melted ice cream outside the club, or, if you think your club could be the coldest, construct a pyramid of ice-cubes!). This must be accompanied by 25 words or less putting your case for the top title.

Joining Dulux in the search for Australia’s Toughest Surf Life Saving Club is Seven News meteorologist Jane Bunn, an expert on Australia’s diverse climatic conditions.

Jane will shortlist entrants with 1 winner per state (VIC/TAS, NSW, QLD, SA/NT, WA), before asking the public to vote for the shortlisted entries online. There will be a $500 runner up prize for the shortlisted clubs.

Clubs can enter via dulux.com.au/duluxsurf. Entries close 19th February 2016.
