Our young U19 men's crew made the trek to Mollymook last weekend to compete in the annual Mollymook Classic, and although finishing 3rd in every race, by all reports you could have thrown a blanket over the crews in all races. With inshore gutter playing havoc with the starts, and the boys drawing a couple of bad alleys, it was a credit to their perseverance for finishing so close to the winning crew. Due to Ed being unavailable to sweep, our reliable standby sweep Nick Lowe took the reins. Thanks goes to Nick for putting his hand up to travel south so the boys didn't miss out on the weekends racing. If you see the young blokes around town, you will see what 3 days a week in the boat, and 2 nights at the gym can do for your physique, with the engine room getting bigger every day.
The boys next carnival will be a road trip ( Every Dad loves a road trip!!) and not just a little road trip, Lorne in Victoria. Yes you heard right, Lorne!!, on 1st December. This carnival is the selection carnival for the U23 ASRL team, and is attended by all the strong Boat Clubs which makes it a great indicator to how you are travelling in you preparation for State and Aussie Championships. Depending on travel arrangements the boys may row at Lorne again on the Sunday at their open carnival , but that will be determined closer to the date. Fortunately Ed has been lucky enough to lock in accomodation at Torquay SLSC in their bunkhouse, so the young fellas will get to see some of that old fashioned surf club comradely that a lot of our older members would have witnessed over the years. So all the best to the boys, as we know they will do our club and their families proud.
With a bit of gentle persuasion, Ed white has been able to move our new surf boats delivery time forward a bit, and we will be the proud owners of a beautiful new surf boat in the coming weeks. As we mentioned in the last report, we are hoping to be able to have a boat Christening just before Christmas and when the date is locked in, we will let all members and friends know.
As mentioned on our last post, we have been lucky enough to gain a major sponsor this year, that being Westfund health Insurance. As part of the sponsorship, there are options open to our club to gain further sponsorship dependant on how many members purchase a Health insurance policy with Westfund. The number we need to reach is 15 and at the moment we have 8 policies signed up. So, if we can get another 7 policies signed up by our members, we unlock another large sum of money to help our club purchase our boat. If you have been unhappy with your health care provider, or would think of changing funds to support our Boaties, or you are needing health care for the first time contact Westfund by clicking on the link on our web page and request a an obligation free quote. Please don't forget to mention that you are a member of Helensburgh Stanwell Park SLSC to be added to the tally if and when you join.
The Boat Section would like to thank their new Major Sponsor Westfund Health Insurance, for believing in what we are trying to accomplish, and what we as a surf club stand for. Welcome. Thanks must also go to Peabody Helensburgh Coal for their continued support towards our boat also. We have another local sponsor coming on board who we hope to be able to announce over the coming weeks.
Guns up!!!
