In October 1980 Tanya (Lean) Potter was the first female in Helensburgh-Stanwell Park Surf Life Saving Club to gain a Bronze Medallion, it was only earlier that year that females in Australia were allowed to train for, test and be awarded with their Bronze Medallion. In the 40 years that have passed, 237 female club members have been awarded with their Bronze Medallion at the club.
As one of these 237 female members you are invited to attend a celebration for 40 Years of Women In Surf Life Saving at Helensburgh-Stanwell Park Surf Club on 31 January 2020 starting at 12:00 noon
It will be a special day for the club, starting with an all female Surf Patrol from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm, followed by a luncheon for all the female Bronze Medallion holders the club has had over the past 40 years.
At 12:00 noon you will be invited onto the beach to meet the current female patrolling members of the club, and pose for a group photo.
Special Guest speaker at the luncheon is Professor Ngaire Brown, she is Yuin nation woman, one of the first Aboriginal doctors in Australia, a surf life saver and a brilliant public speaker.
Lunch will be provided by the club with the bar open for refreshments.
Unlike today where everyone carries a camera in the pocket, we are lacking images of females on patrol or surf club activities, if you have any photos it would be appreciated if you could send them to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. to help put together a short presentation for the day.
Also, if you did your Bronze Medallion with a friend, let them know about the event and invite them along just in case an invitation hasn’t found its way to them.
If you are able to attend please register using this link https://www.trybooking.com/BNYKK
