On Sunday 18 October, Surf Life Saving Clubs across the state will throw their doors open to the public to provide an inside look at what being a part of a surf club is all about.

Helensburgh-Stanwell Park Surf Life Saving Club will be hosting a number of activities including lifesaving demonstrations, clubhouse tour, sausage sizzle and an information session.

SLSNSW Director of Member Services, Glenn Langley, said Surf Club Open Day gives the public an opportunity to see the wide variety of activities they could get involved in at a surf club.

“With more than 77,000 people involved in Surf Life Saving throughout NSW including people of all ages and walks of life, now is the perfect time to join a surf club. There are literally hundreds of volunteer roles to choose from, everything from patrolling the beach on a weekend, to radio communications, administration and fundraising, or managing a team of competitors at a surf carnival. Everyone has what it takes to be a surf lifesaver,” said Mr Langley.

“There are so many benefits to joining a surf club. Apart from learning vital lifesaving skills, you can get involved with support services such as powered water craft patrols, get fit and healthy participating in surf sports and involve your kids in a fun range of nipper activities that will help their growth and development.

“One of the great things about joining a surf club is that you walk into a ready-made group of friends. It’s also a great way to spend some family time together, while doing something good for the community,” he said.

The club is always looking for new members for surf patrol, competition and nippers.

There are many different kinds of members, from junior members, our Nippers, right through to life members who have served their club and community for many years. There are all sorts of reasons people join a club, whether it’s to help the community, get involved in surf sports, be part of our rescue response teams, to help out in administration, or just for the social aspect. In surf lifesaving, everything is voluntary and there’s something for everyone.

Helensburgh-Stanwell Park Surf Club invites you to come down and learn more about who we are, what we do and how you and your family can become involved with our great organisation.
