BRP Powercraft Grant awarded to 35 Surf Life Saving Clubs and Services around Australia Congratulations to the 35 Surf Life Saving clubs and services from around Australia, selected to be the beneficiaries of the 2013 BRP Powercraft Equipment Grant. The grant, launched in February, allocated a total of $360,000 worth of essential lifesaving equipment to Surf Life Saving (SLS) affiliated clubs and services across Australia by allowing them to purchase heavily subsidised powercraft equipment. Calling for SLSA Leaders' Masterclass 2013 Applications Applications are now open for SLSA' Leaders' Masterclass 2013 program. The aim of the Leaders Masterclass is to provide an opportunity for existing leaders within SLS (at all levels) to participate in a high-level leadership development program. Registration now open for the Fiji Challenge 2013! Not for profit-organisation CUFA invites SLS members to take part in the 2013 Fijian Leadership Challenge. Fom 6 - 17 May, participants will be challenged as they embark on a 60km kayak around Kadavu and Ono Islands, southwest of Fiji. Following the kayaking challenge, participants will engage in a range of activities to support CUFA’s in-country project work. The final challenge is to commit to 100 hours of community volunteering once returning from Fiji. Register now >>

Burnie lifesaver makes waves in Samoa On Monday March 25, David Guest from Burnie SLSC in Tasmania commenced his role at the Samoan Tourism Authority (STA) in Samoa. In the role coordinated by the Australian Volunteer for International Development (AVID), David will manage, supervise and assist with a number of lifesaving activities throughout coastal areas of Samoa. SLSA introduces Surf Safety Education into Phuket SLSA recently expanded its contribution to drowning prevention and surf safety in Phuket, Thailand to now include communities and schools in addition to local Lifeguards. At the forefront of the program is David Field (Cudgen Headland SLSC) and Anthony Bradstreet (Manly SLSC) who recently travelled to Phuket to induct and train the local Thai lifeguards in the delivery of a lifesaving education program for a mobile lifesaving unit. Korean Coastguard Delegation visits SLSA On Thursday March 7 the Korean Coastguard Delegation made a visit to SLSA’s Head Offices in Sydney.
