Members,

The club had a great day on Saturday, 1 February 2020 hosting the SLSI Junior Development Carnival. It was the first time the club has hosted a carnival at Stanwell Park Beach in over 10 years.

We had members on the beach from 6:00am (maybe a bit earlier) with many of them staying until pack up was completed around 2:00 pm.

A BIG THANKYOU to the club's Water Safety Team and IRB Drivers and Crew for their service during the day. We had to find the Surf Sports Manual at one stage to help us remember the order of the can colours for the swim cans, as well as a few tense moments working out how to lay the cans. The Water Safey did a massive 4+ hour stint looking after competitors in the U/8's right up to the U/15's. Many compliments from carnival officials and other clubs for a job well done. Most of the Water Safety Team and IRB Crews clocked up 8 patrols hours for their efforts.

To the general work party, it was almost like we put on a carnival every year, it all just seemed to happen as required and we were setup and ready to go well in advance of the carnival starting....excellent effort. When it came to the pack up there were plenty of hands ready and waiting to pull everything down which was a challenge considering it was at peak daytime temperature and feet melting sand temperatures....thankyou to all.

The food, so many thanks of appreciation across the board for the food service. A big thanks to the senior families who came down to allow the nipper parents to get onto the beach to watch their children compete, a wonderful gesture. The officials and water safety really appreciated being fed and watered on the beach with nutritious snacks, and the post event food was spectacular.

I have tried to thank individuals personally for the assistance in making this event happen and be successful. So again thankyou to everyone who did the running around and leadup work to get everything aligned for the day, this including picking the carnival trailer and bbq trailer, sourcing food supplies, ice, drinks, checking we had gear ready for the day, ensuring the IRB's we ready, getting the 2nd ATV back up and running...it was an awesome team effort.

There has been great and supportive feedback from officials and clubs already, and this was all because as a club we got in there and had a go...so looking forward to taking on another carnival next season, or maybe something later this season...watch this space.

Thanks to our resident UAV Pilot for the image attached and making sure the surf was safe for the competitors on the day.

I can't end this without saying well done to all the Helensburgh-Stanwell Park Nippers who competed on the day, for many of the it was their first surf carnival. The club had some great results including a win in a board race with a come behind wave cracked at the cans to overtake the entire field...local knowledge. The carnival wasn't about places and results, so it was good to see so many Helensburgh-Stanwell Park competitors in water events giving them a red hot go, as well as showing everyone how to do it on the beach...well done all.

Again, I am overwhelmed by the support the membership is showing to the events being conducted by the club, it was really good to see so many people willing to just help out and make these events a success.

Thanks,

Steven
