TONY HAVEN AND MICHAEL BATE RECIEVE LIFE MEMBERSHIP OF SLSA
Congratulations to Surf Life Saving NSW President Tony Haven, who has been awarded Life Membership of SLSA. Congratulations also go to our Director of Surf Sports, Michael Bate, who has received an SLSA President’s Medal. It’s great to see both these hard working volunteers recognised for their efforts. Well done Tony and Michael.

2012 COUNTRY TEAM TO TOUR NEW ZEALAND HAS BEEN ANNOUNCED!
Congratulations to the SLSNSW Country athletes who have been selected in the 2012 Country Touring Team to travel to NZ in January 2013. The team will contest the 2013 Tri Series against Central Coast Branch and SLS Northern Region New Zealand. 2012 Country Team.

AUSTRALIAN TEAM FOR RESCUE 2012
Congratulations to Andrew Bowden (Bronte SLSC) and Tim Schofield (Terrigal SLSC) selected in the Australian team to compete in World Lifesaving Championships (Rescue 2012) in November 2012. Congratulations also go to Trent Klouzal (Manly SLSC), Jack Waddell (Terrigal SLSC), Keelan Bridge (Terrigal SLSC), Sam Earp, Captain (Swansea Belmont SLSC), Jessica Collins (Redhead SLSC), Rachelle King (Terrigal SLSC) and Bree Masters (Cronulla SLSC) selected in the U20 Australian team to compete at the Championships.

SURF CLUB FACILITY GRANTS - NOW OPEN!
The Surf Club Facility Development Program is designed to assist with the funding for the development of local surf life saving clubs. The aim of this program is to increase the availability, standard and quality of surf life saving clubs in NSW for the benefit of their members and the wider community. Applications for this year’s $2million Surf Club Facility Grants are open. For guidelines on how to apply for funding to upgrade your clubhouse and facilities click here. Click here to apply.

WORKING WITH CHILDREN CHECKS – IS YOUR CLUB UP TO DATE?
The Commission for Children and Young People Act 1998, require SLSNSW to ask all new members and volunteers and members renewing their membership after a leave of absence of at least one season, to sign the Volunteer / Student Declaration. Please note that members need only sign the form once. This has been changed from previous years to reduce the burden on clubs.  Clubs must ensure that every member has this box ticked on SurfGuard. More information on the processes that need to take place this season can be found on the circular

18-25 DEVELOPMENT NETWORKING PROGRAM
SLSNSW is excited to announce the opening of applications for the 2012 Development Networking Program. This year’s program will be held from Friday 23 November to Sunday 25 November 2012 at the YHA in Sydney. If you are between the ages of 18 – 25 and are passionate about Surf Life Saving please click here for more information and to complete the Registration Form. All you need to do is get your club to sign this before sending on to your branch for endorsement. Applications close with SLSNSW on Monday 8 October 2012.

2012 WESLEY LIFEFORCE SUICIDE MEMORIAL DAY
Each year Wesley Mission holds a memorial service for those affected by suicide. All are welcome to attend. The 2012 Wesley Lifeforce Suicide Memorial Day will be held on Thursday 13 September 2012, at 12pm at the Sydney Opera House, Northern Boardwalk.

WILL YOUR CLUB BE NEXT TO WIN $1,000 WITH THE DULUX CLUB REPAINT PHOTO COMPETITON?
Congratulations to Rosie Wood for taking out the July winning photo and receiving $250 for herself and $1000 for The Entrance SLSC! 2012 ENDURANCE CHAMPIONSHIPS HEADS TO HUNTER
The annual early season Endurance Championships will head to Swansea Belmont SLSC this year with the event to be held on Sunday 28 October. The club has a proud history of hosting major Surf Life Saving events in NSW including hosting the State Championships from 2008 to 2010. WORKERS COMPENSATION
Surf Life Saving NSW is committed to supporting our members in the event they suffer an unfortunate injury or illness while undertaking an authorised Surf Life Saving activity. To make it easier to protect the health and wellbeing of our members, we have developed a fact sheet and revised the Workers Compensation Claim and Notification of Injury forms. BEACH TO BUSH 2012 - CALL FOR PRESENTERS
It's Beach to Bush time again and we are inviting applications from interested members to present the program to our rural young Australians. The 2012 tour runs from Monday 5 November to Friday 9 November. You will also need to allow additional travel time to reach your destination. Schools from as far and wide as Coleambally, Woodenbong and Kyogle are just a few of the many we will tour. Visit our capital, its museums and galleries, pop into the wineries of the Riverina, sample the cafes of the Blue Mountains or walk the walks – much to see and do in your spare time! If you would like a change of scenery, and have a flair communicating with primary aged children, then click here to complete the application form and return it to SLSNSW by 31 August 2012. All expenses will be reimbursed, including a vehicle allowance.

SECOND ROUND OF FUNDING FOR THE FOUNDATION FOR RURAL AND REGIONAL RENEWAL (FRRR) SMALL GRANTS FOR SMALL COMMUNITIES PROGRAM - NOW OPEN 
Small Grants for Small Communities is open once again. Grants will be made in amounts up to $5,000 that offer clear public benefit for communities with populations of 10,000 or less. Eligible applications will live in small rural and remote locations in Australia contributing to their development in:

  • Social and community welfare
  • Economic and environmental health
  • Education
  • Cultural areas
